Furniture Stockholm: Inspired Furniture For The Home

by Richard Guilfoyle

Interest in furniture and design has grown incredibly in Sweden recently and today are just as important as the clothes we wear in terms of how we express our personality. Similar to clothing fashion, Stockholm is at the leading edge of furniture and interior design (inredning). And being one of the world's most modern cities there is something here for everyone, regardless of your style or your budget.

Furniturebox.se is a web-based company, which sells expensive furniture pieces at lower prices. In central Stockholm they have a 500 sq meter store that offers high quality furniture and a real shopping experience. Bolia, with their New Scandinavian Design concept and handmade furniture is a must-see for anyone interested in design and handicraft. Bolia have a renowned design team and give young designers the chance to join them through the Bolia Design Award.

Ekero Furniture, Stalands Möbler, and DUX beds are big players in the Stockholm furniture business. Some furniture companies, such as POM (Piece of Mind) ask why certain products that should exist do not, and then answer that question by creating those products.

After compiling data about customer desires at a furniture fair recently, Lanna Furniture has selected a brand new inventory. Bromma Furniture offers stately pieces with solid construction, while Carlssons Möbler is known for its high quality work and its long history of making great pieces. GAD, a company from the island of Gotland, is also a retailer in Stockholm, creating unique furniture on demand.

One exciting area in Stockholm that the furniture lover must not miss is the SoFo region. There you'll find an exciting array of secondhand shops, galleries selling demo pieces, Feng-Shui inspired furniture as well as plenty of classic pieces from the 50s and 60s which are especially sought after right now. You will, of course, find the furniture giants of IKEA, Mio and EM in Stockholm as well.

The last, but certainly not least, thing to mention in any discussion of Stockholm furniture is the Stockholm Furniture Fair, or the largest gathering of Scandinavian furniture lovers. Particularly notable at the fair is the Greenhouse section, which gathers new designers and international design schools, giving them an opportunity to showcase their work. Another fair that runs at the same time as the furniture fair is the Northern Light Fair, which is the Scandinavian lighting exhibition.

Similar to clothing fashion, Stockholm furniture (möbler stockholm) is at the leading edge of furniture and interior design (inredning). With a uniquely wide variety of secondhand shops, a vast number of galleries selling sample pieces, furniture (möbler) constructed in light of Feng Shui principles, and the timeless pieces from the 50's and 60's which are high in demand right now, Stockholm has so much to offer the furniture world. One last thing to mention is the Stockholm Furniture Fair, or the largest gathering of Scandinavian furniture lovers.
